Importance of Jummah
The Virtues and Importance of Jummah

All communities and societies have their days of importance. Some they treat as holidays, some as days of festivities, etc. Friday is one such day for Muslims. However, it is not like any other day. Instead of focusing on other superficial things, Muslims utilize Friday in a unique way. On this day of every week, we should focus on worshiping Allah and getting close to Allah.

The Prophet (PBUH) narrated a Hadith in this regard that we can find in Hadith collections such as Sahih Muslim. He stated that before him, Allah guided people away from Fridays. Hence, Saturday was for the Jews and Sunday for the Christians. Then, Allah guided Muslims to Fridays. The days would follow in their natural order on the Day of Resurrection, so Muslims would be first on that day.

Friday Prayer

More Hadith exist that show the virtues of Fridays, The Prophet (PBUH) reported that Friday is the best day because Allah created Adam (AS) on that day. He said that the trumpet would be blown on a Friday as well, then commanded us to send blessings upon him on that day. In another Hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) also clearly said that the best day on which the sun rises is Friday.

The Jummah prayer, which is one of the best prayers, is also to be offered on Fridays. Allah ordained that we offer this prayer in congregation, and doing so is highly rewarding. According to Abdullah ibn ‘Umar, the Prophet (PBUH) also said that the best prayer before Allah is to offer the Fajr prayer in congregation on Fridays.
